DAY ONE
An in depth look at data protection in Europe through the years.
Discussing the correlation between data protection and privacy, including human rights.
The impact Brexit has had in the GDPR in Britain, and your responsibility in ensuring compliance with the changes.
How you and your organisation can distinguish between the different types of data, and how they should be processed.
How to understand the principles of data protection and what they mean for you and your organisation.
A look at the different lawful bases for processing personal data, and how and why they apply, including the added protection special category data gets, plus any exemptions that apply and why.
DAY TWO
Who is accountable for data protection, and how and why you ensure governance and accountability are adhered to.
A look at the role of the DPO within an organisation.

The relationship between controllers and processors in the data protection journey, and the responsibilities of each.
The relationship between controllers and third countries when transferring data, and the different ways to transfer that data safely and legally.
DAY THREE

This qualification is aimed at candidates who have, or wosh to have, some responsibility for data protection within an organisation. It’s for those who need to understand the changes that the GDPR and the UK Data Protection Act 2018 bring to data protection legislation, and what needs to be done to ensure their organisation’s compliance.
The certificate will also be useful for those who wish to obtain and demonstrate a broad understanding and application of the UK’s data protection regime. It is ideal for those candidates who already hold the Foundation Certificate in Data Protection and want to gain more in-depth knowledge of interpreting and applying the principles of data protection legislation, and the GDPR in particular.

Exam Information
One attempt at the exam is included within the course price. The DPAS Training Manager will set you up on the dedicated BCS portal, where you will book your exam. You’ll be sent a one time link to set up your exam account.
You can take your exam at any time that suits you. It’s worth noting however, that you will need to acquaint yourself with the updated syllabus if you decide to take the exam six months after the course, or later.
The exam is held via remote proctor (someone who will watch you complete it).
You can do this at any location convenient to you.
You will use your own device for the exam.
The exam is a 90 minute closed book exam.
The pass rate is 26/40 (65%).

All of our courses are held virtually (unless otherwise stated).
All courses are tutor-led by experienced data protection professionals.
You will need access to Microsoft Teams (MS Teams) throughout the course.
All courses will commence at 9:00am and will finish at 4:00pm.
Breaks will be scheduled throughout the day. (If you need to attend a meeting during the day, please discuss this with the trainer so they can tie this into allocated breaks.)
You will be sent – via email – a link to the Microsoft Teams meeting two to three weeks prior to the course. (Please ensure that you are able to access this before the course commences.)
