The client
Reigate and Banstead Borough Council is the local government authority for the Reigate and Banstead district in Surrey, England. The council is responsible for providing various local services, including waste management, planning, housing, and leisure facilities. It consists of elected councillors who make decisions on policies, budgets, and community development. The council actively engages with residents, seeking their input through consultations and public meetings. It collaborates with other organisations and government agencies to deliver effective services and works on initiatives to enhance sustainability, economic development, and social welfare.
What did they need?
RBBC approached Data Privacy Advisory Service when they had internal capacity issues and needed external subject matter expertise support to help manage this. The demands placed on organisations to ensure compliance with data protection requirements can be burdensome, and therefore require extra resources. As a council, RBBC deal with large volumes of personal data, and were looking for independent advice on how to manage their internal capacity issues, and stay on the right side of data protection compliance.
How did we help?
Working with the council, DPAS was able to provide an interim Data Protection Officer (DPO) service, assisting RBBC with their data protection compliance. This additional expertise also provides additional reassurance that requirements are being met, and allows skills transfer to the client throughout the process. DPAS has assisted in a number of different projects as a part of our continued relationship with RBBC. These include agreement drafting, data protection impact assessment (DPIA) completion, and surveillance camera compliance remediation work.
What the client had to say:
‘DPAS provides us with excellent, responsive advice when we need to supplement our in-house resource – a great, reliable service when we need it most.’
